Full job description

Helix Biosciences is hiring a Bioinformatics Analyst to join our Quebec City team.

About Helix Biosciences

Helix Biosciences is a regional biotech and life sciences group with 9 locations across eastern Quebec, headquartered in Sherbrooke. Founded in 2009, our scientists and lab professionals serve clients and customers throughout the region with a hands-on, locally rooted approach.

About the role

You'll turn raw sequencing and omics data into answers researchers can use: running and maintaining analysis pipelines for tasks like variant calling, RNA-seq, or metagenomics, performing quality control, writing scripts to clean and integrate datasets, applying statistical methods, and presenting results in clear reports and figures. You'll work closely with wet-lab scientists to design analyses that actually answer their questions and keep everything reproducible and versioned.

What you'll bring

You combine biology literacy with real programming skill, comfortable in Python or R and on the Linux command line. You've analyzed high-throughput sequencing data before, you document your work so others can rerun it, and you explain methods to non-programmers without condescension.

We screen on fit and skill, not on perfect resumes. If you can do the work, we want to hear from you.

Required Qualifications

  • Degree in bioinformatics, computational biology, or a related field
  • Experience analyzing next-generation sequencing data with standard pipelines and tools
  • Proficiency in Python or R and the Linux command line
  • Eligibility to work in Canada

Benefits

  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision benefits
  • Parental leave top-up to 100% of salary for sixteen weeks
  • Four weeks paid vacation plus the week between Christmas and New Year's
  • Hybrid schedule for non-bench work
